From 2 to 4 October 2026, the international scholarly conference Contemporary Serbian Folkloristics 17 was held in Tršić. The conference was organized by the Association of Serbian Folklorists, in cooperation with the Institute for Literature and Arts in Belgrade, the University Library “Svetozar Marković” in Belgrade, and the Educational and Cultural Centre “Vuk Karadžić” in Tršić. One group of topics focused on hybridity in folklore, as well as on the study of folklore under conditions of cultural dynamics, interdisciplinarity, and contemporary social and media transformations. The second thematic segment brought together presentations addressing contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of material culture and folklore, based on the understanding that material practices constitute an integral part of folkloric processes and are key bearers of cultural meanings, identities, and social relations. The third thematic strand encompassed current research in all areas of contemporary folkloristics, as well as phenomena closely related to folklore. The conference brought together more than 50 scholars from a range of disciplines related to folkloristics, including literary studies, ethnomusicology, ethnochoreology, anthropology, ethnology, (ethno)linguistics, and ethnobotany. In addition to researchers from Serbia, the conference was attended, both in person and online, by scholars from Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Srpska. As part of the conference programme, a presentation of folkloristic publications was organized, along with a screening of the ethnographic film Slavenje, svetilj ili svetac. Krsna slava u Karaševaka. Participants also had the opportunity to visit Vuk’s House and the Tronoša Monastery.
